Monitoring Subsidence in Urban Area by PSInSAR: A Case Study of Abbottabad City, Northern Pakistan

Globally, major cities are experiencing fast settlement growth, which threatens the equilibrium of socio-ecosystems. In Pakistan, Abbottabad city in particular is urban growth. The main source daily water usage for population these types groundwater (tube–wells). Excessive pumping and high need ground local community affecting subsurface sustainability. this study, persistent scatterer interferometry synthetic aperture radar (PSInSAR) technique with (SAR) images acquired from Sentinel-1 were used to monitor subsidence City, Northern Pakistan. To estimate SARPROZ software was employed process a series images, March 2017 September 2019, along both descending ascending orbit tracks. observed results shows significant increase 2019. map that, during 2017, ?30 mm/year about ?85 2018. While reached ?150 mm/year. Thus, it has seen study area, years increased mean 60 overall trend showed considerably values center city, while areas away experienced low subsidence. Overall, adopted methodology can be successfully detecting, mapping, monitoring land surfaces vulnerable This will facilitate efficient planning, designing surface infrastructure, mitigation management subsidence-induced hazards.
